 MEALSPIRATION SPOTLIGHTTilapia with Kale and Tomato 
This is  294 cals. & makes 1 serving. 

1 (6oz) raw tilapia fillet
1 pinch sea salt (optional)
ground black pepper (to taste, optional) 
1 tsp. extra-virgin olive oil 
1/2 clove garlic, finely chopped
2 cups chopped fresh kale 
1/2 c. canned diced tomatoes, with juice

1. season both sides of tilapia with salt and pepper if desired; set aside. 
2. heat oil in large skillet over medium heat
3. add garlic and kale; cook, stirring frequently for 1 minute
4. add tomatoes (with juice); bring to a boil.  reduce heat to low. 
5. place tilapia fillet on top of kale mixture; cook;, covered for 1 minute. gently turn tilapia over and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until tilapia is cooked through and flakes easily when tested with a fork. 
6. remove from heat and serve

PIYO Time!

I LOVE trying out new workout programs...especially when they are in the convenience of my own and I can look silly attempting to master new moves!

I'm starting a PIYO test group with about 8 other ladies on 7/7/14!  I can't wait!  Most of these ladies are my good friends and I can't wait to see everyone's progress.  It's called a "test group" because the program was just released on 6/23/14 so it's very new!  I know you'll be jealous, but I was able to work out with the creator of PIYO, Chalene Johnson, in Vegas this past weekend...not once, but twice!

A little info on PIYO: it comes with an amazing nutrition plan as well as workout schedule for 60 days -- nutrition is always my biggest struggle for me.  But, I've learned if we don't have both nutrition & workouts in check, we will never reach our health goal.  I'm so glad that this program has both covered for me!

Be on the lookout for my progress pictures.  I'll be updating every STATurday (get it, haha).

 MEALSPIRATION SPOTLIGHT: Coconut Steamed Veggies (1 serving -- a 
great side dish -- from the 3-Day Refresh)
½ c water
½ c chopped fresh broccoli or green beans
½ c sliced fresh carrots
½ c chopped fresh cauliflower
½ tsp coconut oil
¼ tsp sea salt
Add water to medium saucepan, bring to a boil.  Add broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower to saucepan; cover and cook 4-5 minutes or until tender-crisp.  To serve, place veggies in a bowl.  Add coconut oil and salt; toss gently and coat.

FINANCIAL HEALTH SPOTLIGHT Budget Fitness Tip: Leave the Car at Home

If you want to save some serious money, and get the blood pumping at the same time, one way is to look for alternative forms of transportation when getting around. The bus or subway is often cheaper than driving your car and you'll get some exercise out of it—you do have to walk to the bus stop or subway station, after all. Best of all, if you live close enough to commute to work on your bicycle, not only will you save money on gas costs, but you'll get in great shape in no time.

If you have to drive: Instead of fighting for a close parking space, take a space off the beaten path and add a few extra steps to your routine. Your body will thank you for it.

Workout at home!


Can't afford a gym membership?  No problem!  Workout at home! 
Here are a few no-equipment-needed exercises to get you started:
  • Squats. Standing upright, feet wider than shoulders apart. With your arms extended forward or your hands on your hips for balance, squat down. Push your knees outward as you descend until your thighs are parallel with the floor. Continue pushing your knees outward as you stand.
  • Partial-body push-ups (with knees on the floor).
  • Modified jumping jacks. Instead of moving your arms over your head, do these while you press the palms of your hands together at chest level, holding your elbows out to make a straight line.
  • Chair crunches. Sit on a chair with your hands under your behind, arms straight, and fingers facing inward toward one another. Contract your pelvis and lower abs, and, keeping your knees bent at a 90-degree angle, lift your feet off the floor and tuck your knees in toward your chest while bending your upper body slightly toward your knees. Do as many as you can until you reach fatigue.
  • Chair dips. Place your hands on the side of the chair and wrap your fingers around the edge. Scoot forward until your bottom is on the edge of the chair and your arms are fully extended. Keep your feet about 3 inches apart with your legs extended, so your knees are at approximately a 150 degree angle with your heels grounded. With your elbows pointed back and tucked in tight alongside your body, do 15 to 20 dips, 3 seconds down and 1 second up. Keep your chest up and your shoulders back.

Don't forgetAnd your program has to include 30 to 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous cardio workouts three to five times a week.
