MEALSPIRATION SPOTLIGHT: Pork Chops and Apple Sauce
4 oz lean center cut boneless pork chop
½ cup applesauce
1 cup steamed string beans
Directions: Bake pork chop until cooked throughout. Serve with applesauce and beans.

MEALSPIRATION SPOTLIGHT: Egg Salad Wrap
Egg salad Wrap
2 hard-boiled eggs, yolk removed from one
1/4 cup of low-fat cottage cheese
Whole wheat tortilla
1 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
1/2 tsp. of either dried dill or tarragon, salt and pepper to taste
Directions: Chop up hard-boiled eggs and mix with cottage cheese, mustard, salt, pepper, and herbs. Place onto tortilla and wrap up. Serve with 2 cups mixed greens, 1 sliced Roma tomato, and 1 tsp. balsamic vinegar. Toss all ingredients.

Today I went to a Team Beachbody meeting and they had info on their NEW PRODUCTs...
1. Strawberry Shakeology (nothing like the Tropical Strawberry). Soo good! Comes out 1/13/14. 
2. 21-Day Fix.  I can't wait to try this and coach people through it.  21-Days of fitness and EASY EASY nutrition.   And, the other thing I love about it...it's under $60!  Release date is Feb 3rd and I'll be starting an online accountability challenge soon after.  Message me to be added! 


MEALSPIRATION SPOTLIGHT: Grilled Chicken with Apples and Honey
Ingredients:
¼ cup white wine (or low-sodium chicken broth)
1 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
2 tsp. raw honey
1 dash sea salt
4 tsp. olive oil, divided use
4 (4-oz.) raw chicken breasts, boneless, skinless
4 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, thinly sliced
½ medium onion, thinly sliced

Preparation:
1. Preheat grill or broiler.
2. Combine wine, mustard, honey, and salt in a small bowl; whisk to blend. Set aside.
3. Brush chicken breasts evenly with 1 tsp. olive oil.
4. Grill or broil chicken for 5 minutes on each side or until chicken is no longer pink in the middle and juices run clear. Set aside.
5. While chicken is cooking, heat remaining 3 tsp. oil in medium nonstick skillet over medium heat.
6. Add apples, onion, and wine mixture; cook, stirring frequently, for 8 to 10 minutes, or until apples are tender and liquid thickens slightly to sauce consistency.
7. Serve apples over chicken.

MEALSPIRATION SPOTLIGHT: Pizza and salad
1 6-inch whole-wheat pita bread
¼ cup canned tomato sauce
¼ cup chopped broccoli florets steamed
¼ cup thinly sliced button mushrooms
2 oz part-skim mozzarella cheese
2 cups mixed salad greens
5 sliced cherry tomatoes
2 Tbsp low fat dressing

Directions: Preheat oven or toaster oven to 325. Top pita bread with tomato and spread evenly. Scatter vegetable over sauce, and then top with cheese. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until cheese is melted and pizza is hot throughout. Serve with mixed greens tossed with tomatoes and low fat dressing.

Fabulous Friday!

Yay, it's FRIDAY!  Here are some tips for going out to eat (which is one of my favorite things to do on the weekends), but still sticking to your health goals.  

1. Order water with lemon or lime.  Why? More flavorful and will fill you up a little bit before eating. 

2. Need a cocktail?  Ask for skinny cocktails.  Why?  Cocktails are usually filled with tons of empty calories.  I love spicy so most often I'll go for spicy martini like a Hot-pepper-infused vodka over ice with an olive (105 calories)

3. Skip apps.  Why? There are very few apps that are actually healthy.  Meals are big enough!

4. Be picky!  Ask for your chicken grilled, veggies steamed and/or without butter, or baked instead of mashed potato.   Why?  Saving calories can be easy if you make little substitutions.

*Don't forget, if you get off track for one meal...it's only one meal.  Hop back on the fitness wagon the next meal!  We all need to indulge once in a while...just make the best choices that are aligned with your goals most of the time :)

Thirsty Thursday!!

Time for my Thirsty Thursday post!  Nope, no cocktail recipes today...sorry!   Today's focus is on what I am drinking on my cleanse.  Yes, cleanse...3-day Shakeology cleanse to rid my body of my holiday indulgences!!  For the cleanse I need to drink.....a lot.  First off, water!  Our bodies always need lots of water, especially when we are doing a cleanse.  I always recommend drinking half your body weight in ounces.  So I'm drinking about 64 ounces today.  That is totally do-able for me...especially when I'm not teaching (teachers rarely get bathroom breaks!).  I've flavored up my water today with limes, lemons, and/or mint.  This gives it more flavor and I really enjoy it.  Another way to "spruce" up your water is by having flavored seltzer.  It's all-natural, bubbly, and counts towards your water in take for the day. 

In addition to lots of water, I'm also drinking green tea today for the cleanse.  Green tea isn't my favorite choice of tea so I searched the supermarket for flavored green tea.  I was shocked at all the flavors...mint, pomegranate, mango, passion fruit, etc.  These are all really good and I'm enjoying tea on this snowy Boston day!

Water, check.  Green tea, check.  Now...time for Shakeology.  3 shakes today!  All are made with water and ice because that's what the cleanse calls for.  Don't worry, in upcoming posts I'll post my delicious Shakeology recipes!   I'm out of chocolate so today is an all vanilla day!

Workout Wednesday - New Years Detox Flow Yoga Class

Happy New Year!  Today brings a new year and so many people have new goals to workout.  My overall goal is being active 5 days a week.  This could be a quick run, yoga class, or a workout at home....anything that my body feels like doing at the time and will me feel better (because who doesn't feel better after a good workout??).

So today I looked at my yoga studio's schedule and they had a "Detox Flow" class for 1.5 hours.  There wasn't a description, but the name of the class was totally intriguing and sounded like something I needed after holiday/engagement/NYE indulgences!

The class was amazing!!  So crowded and therefore so hot in the class!!  The instructor had us doing so many twists and lunges to really "rinse out" our bodies.  Felt sweaty, stretched, and detoxed after!  If you are looking to change up your normal "gym" routine, I highly suggest hot power yoga class!!
